Drunken Monkeee - American Psycho
During an early morning round of random facebook link clicking, I came across a promo for a new album "Global Warming" from an emcee out of Chicago named Drunken Monkeee. The promo was a little too short to get any feel for what his music was like, so I looked him up on youtube and found a thoroughly entertaining. and largely overlooked, trove of videos. Rather than the typical shoestring budget rap video that features Unsigned Rapper X lip synching in front of his hometown entourage, each of Drunken Monkeee's videos are treated like short films. Typically shot in black and white, and occasionally disturbing, they feature Monkeee assuming the role of some character - be it a serial killer, the guy on the couch from Half Baked, or the leader of a band of super soaker-toting monkeys - with a minimal wardrobe.
Though they aren't likely to win any Oscars, these clips are way more interesting than the typical music video from any genre. As a bonus, Drunken Monkeee has some pretty good skills on the mic to go along with his acting talent. Here are two of his other videos that stood out:
