As Philly emcee My Man Shafe continues working toward the release of his upcoming debut, Who's That?! My Man Shafe!, he's also been working on some one-off projects to further pad his resume as the standard bearer for hip hop and funk fusion. First it was the New Wu Freestyle with Alex Ludovico and Zilla Rocca, and now Shafe presents us with a track that just reeks of funk. Aided by the soulful vocals of Alaina Nelson and the instrumental from The Whitefield Brothers' Chokin', Shafe puts in some serious work on this new track:
Shafe tends to favor beats that feature a lot of different instruments, the kind of stuff that translates really well to a live performance when backed by a band. He recently hooked up with the LP Stiles band for a live show at Philly's World Cafe Live, and as you'll see below the results were quite good (and shoutout to Zilla who not only filmed the performance with the camera in head nod mode, but can also be heard performing some hypeman duties!):
Stay tuned, as Shafe has a bunch of stuff that we'll be releasing shortly as we continue to build up to his album release. In the meantime, you can keep track of him over on twitter.
