Mally - Heir Time

In case you missed it over the weekend (and it's unlikely you did, as it's been posted on most of the hip hop sites that are worth reading), my man Mally dropped a new video for his single Heir Time this past Friday. Featuring background cameos from The Sundance Kid and Slug of Atmosphere, a lot of people are comparing it to Evidence's video for Far Left, and that certainly seems to have been a source of inspiration for its artistic direction. A couple of youtube haters used the similarities as a way to dismiss Mally's video as derivative, but I actually think the comparison ends up being quite favorable for the Minnesota emcee: in just three days Heir Time has already received a significant percentage of the views and "likes" that Far Left has, and that video came out in 2008 and had the relative star power of The Alchemist to draw in viewers. Hopefully other independent artists will take note that you don't necessarily need a big budget for a good video; all you need is a dope song and a decent concept.
