What's not to like about a rap song that references classic lines from Jeru, Ice-T, Jay-Z and Biggie, and whose artwork includes a slick shoutout to the Purple Tape? Throw in some great verses from the homies Zilla Rocca and Has-Lo, along with an amazing beat from Dr. Quandary (who also did the artwork), and we've got a legitimate candidate for the best hip hop cut of the summer.
Full Spectrum is the first single off of Zilla's upcoming Nights & Weekends EP. I got a chance to listen to the EP, and I'm pretty confident in saying that it's Zilla's best effort thus far. Keep checking clapcowards.com for full release details on it, and if you want to really support the cause and help give this project the momentum it deserves head on over to Zilla's kickstarter campaign.
In the meantime, check out the new single. If all goes according to plan, Zilla will be releasing a rather ambitious video to go along with it by the end of the summer:
And if you missed it, Mr. Rocca put out a prelude mixtape that features a couple of cuts from the EP, along with various songs from the likes of De La Soul and Redman all built around the theme of Nights and Weekends. You can stream it for free over here.
Finally, if you happen to find yourself in the greater Philly area this Thursday, Zilla and Castro will be performing songs from the EP over at Rogues Gallery. I don't know much about the bar, but it has a great name.
