Some of you may recall an announcement a couple of years ago regarding a Clean Guns vs Wu-Tang album. As so often happens when two talented artists work together for any length of time, Clean Guns eventually broke up over creative differences before they got a chance to reach their full potential, and one casualty of the breakup was the very promising Wu album. I attempted to carry the torch on the project, with the idea of adding various other emcees onto the promos that had already been recorded and flipping that into a 33Jones vs Wu-Tang mixtape, but getting a bunch of artists scattered around the country to collaborate over the internet turned out to be just slightly more difficult than herding cats. Hopefully one day I'll get the chance to release what I did manage to cobble together.
Thankfully, though, Zilla never gave up on the original project and has spent the past two years collaborating with his Wrecking Crew compatriots to put together a full album of reimagined Wu classics. I've heard about 90% of the album, now renamed Wu-Tang Pulp, and I will be amazed (and severely disappointed) if this thing doesn't end up in the discussion for album of the year when all is said and done. The above video is the first semi-official leak from the album, a remake of Wu Tang's Careful (Click Click).
Zilla may disagree, but I think it's a pretty good sign for the project that someone took the time to bootleg that song and put it up on Youtube even after Zilla put up his own official trailer for the song:
