Staying on my New Jerz ish (word to Joe Budden) from yesterday, I've got another song by one of Rich Port's former affiliates from the Brick City. This one's from Ill Poetix, three brothers born and raised in Newark. They've gotten some love from various blogs over the past couple of years, but the group is on hiatus at the moment as one of their members is currently in Maryland waiting to go through boot camp training. Until they get around to recording some new material, I highly recommend digging around the internet to find some of their older releases. They've got a bit of a backpacker-friendly sound to them, but their beats, many of which are produced by the UK's Scifi Stu, are generally a lot more layered than the stereotypical boom bap production of the average underground joint.

Here's a cut from a mixtape they put out back in 2008. It's a dope song overall, but it's stayed in my car stereo rotation largely on the strength of the Big Daddy Kane sample:
