Back in the day, for a female emcee to get any kind of attention she either had to build a career around her sex appeal with the music becoming a mere sideshow, or take things to the opposite extreme and present such an agressive facade as to become indistinguishable from her male competitors. Some of that still exists today - look no further than the career of Nikki Minaj or the recent signing of lolita rapper OG Niki - but it seems to be more the rule than the exception these days that female emcees can look fly and be ill lyricists. I suppose some of that has to due with the declining influence of the major labels, and their decreasing influence over the marketing schemes of developing artists.

In any event, we've got two examples of this sort of new wave "femcee" for today. First up is the full version of the song Space Travel from KalaeAllDay that we put up last week. It's the first single off of her new EP, The Sun, The Moon & The Stars that she just released today with Sciryl Cooper and the band TurnStylz. Check it out:

You can find more info on the EP, as well as a link to purchase it, over on Kalae's website.

Next up is a new track from Philly's Ethel Cee, on a song produced by Margel Overton (who also produced Curly Castro's recent West Indian Rum) featuring Chill Moody.

And finally, here's a non-rap video of Kalae. It's a little out there, but fascinating nonetheless:
