The1shanti - Brooklyn Shanti Theme
Digging around the internet this morning to see what fellow B.C. alum Canyon Cody has been doing with his label Gnawledge Records, I came across this latest offering from his artist the1shanti. With an electro sounding beat, samples of M.I.A., shoutouts to Williamsburg and footage from what looks to be Southpaw, this one seems to be geared towards a hipster fanbase. Yet there's something about this kid's flow that has a real old school feel to it, and that hook with the cut up vocals from Flex, Common, Jadakiss, Biggie and Jay-Z is dope.
Brooklyn Shanti Theme is off of Shanti's upcoming album Brooklyn Circa 2012. You can hear more songs from it over on Shanti's bandcamp page.
Oh, and speaking of Brooklyn (and on a non-music related note), have y'all seen what's going on with the police over there? The below video has been making the rounds over the weekend. The real outrage is how many of these incidents occur without someone getting them on video, but nevertheless this one is worth watching:
