From a marketing perspective, I'm not entirely sure what the thought process was behind Saigon's decision to shoot a video for a nine year old song that isn't featured on his new album (let alone the decision to leave in the DJ Drama and Mixunit.com drops from the original mixtape version), but nevertheless it's great to finally see an official version of Color Purple. Not only is it one of the best beats Saigon's ever rapped over, but the song's become an increasingly needed counter to the rising tide of fashiongangsters waving red and blue flags in their promos as cavalierly as if they were repping for their local sports team.
As for the album itself, I'm still on the fence as to whether it's a truly great album or if I've just waited so long to hear it that I'm incapable of being critical of it.
