Back when Jay-Z was still spitting sped-up lyrics without any of the references to hustling that has made him popular these days, he used to be one of the opening acts for Big Daddy Kane. Jay-Z has said in more than one interview that Kane was one of the main inspirations for him to rap. Jay's thrown in a few shout outs to Kane in his songs over the years. Hov's most famous tribute (or blatant bite, depending on your feelings toward Jay) to Kane is the freestyle he did over Kane's Warm It Up beat.

They both open up with virtually the same lyrics:

Kane:
Come, get some, you little bum
I take the cake but you can't get a crumb

Jay-Z: Come get some you little bum
I take the cake from under the baker's thumb

Some of the lyrics from this freestyle were reused for the remix of Excuse Me Miss (Again).
