My man Nick Arcade recently put me up on a group out of Illinois called The Highest Low (comprised of members Just Wise and the amazingly named Snotty Pippen). Much like Nick's own group State Champs, The Highest Low have a bit of a 90's era sound to their music. I haven't heard a whole lot from them yet, but what I have heard has been pretty good. They just dropped a new mixtape, Middle Finger Mind State, which is available for free over at their bandcamp page.
Below is the best cut from the mixtape, which features a tremendous beat from producer RAM. It's built around a sample that I'm pretty sure Pete Rock flipped for one of his albums with CL Smooth back in the day. If anyone can identify it, drop a note in the comments section.
