Bless put me up on this video from Don Trip, a rapper signed to Cool and Dre's Epidemic Music label, who breaks down his child custody battle over the beat from Lil Wayne's Murder This.
The fact that I only heard about this song via word of mouth from a friend shows how out of touch I am with the current rap echo chamber (or perhaps it says more about how good music often gets lost in the noise generated by the mainstream blogosphere's spaghetti-against-the-wall approach to posting music, but I digress), as the video's amassed 300,000 hits, been retweeted by just about every rapper with an iPhone and linked to by more than a few of the corporate sponsored weblogs out there. In any event, though Trip is unlikely to impress anyone with intricate wordplay ("This is what I get for going raw when I piped her / Thinking that I loved her when I shouldn't even liked her"), he more than makes up for it with raw emotion. It's reminiscent of the stuff Game was putting out before he started getting tatted up with Butterflies.
