Epick and Elle King - I Don't Mind
Jaime, a friend of mine from back in my college days, put me up on an emcee from NYC named Epick. As the frontman for a 7-piece hip hop band named "The Motherf*ckers," Epick doesn't necessarily look the part of a traditional emcee, and the samples he uses for his beats are often from non-traditional sources such as the acoustic guitar loop in the above I Don't Mind. Nonetheless I dig what he's been putting out recently, particularly this latest video which relies on some Me & The Biz style puppetry. The song veers well into pop music territory, but the hook alone, sung by Brooklyn's Elle King, makes it well worth your time. She has an incredible voice, stealing the spotlight from Epick despite never actually appearing in the video itself.

Random side note on my friend Jaime: after graduation, I lost touch until I randomly stumbled upon a gossip block that had a photo of him walking hand in hand with Christina Aguilera. Turns out he was the best man in her wedding.
