State Champs - Party Clothes
One of the first independent artists featured on this site was a young emcee (no bust a move) going by the name of TkS aka Nick Arcade. In reviewing his first release I said at the time that, while he undoubtedly showed signs of promise, he was far from a finished product. Fast forward almost four years later and TkS, now a part of the Dekalb duo State Champs, has honed his craft, offering up a fully polished delivery.
The above video for Party Clothes was released last spring, but Arcade is now pushing it as part of a promo for the State Champs' latest mixtape, 2 Ill Cats in a Ford Truck (click here to stream and download it). TkS comes in on the second verse, and I have to say it's great to see how he's managed to strengthen his skills as an emcee while still maintaining his occasionally quirky delivery. As part of State Champs, he seems to be carving out a good niche in laid back jazzy hip hop.
