Longtime readers of this site should be familiar with Chris Brown, a.k.a. He's Hers a.k.a. PE. In addition to being the author of one of my favorite songs, Chris has been responsible for a few significant milestones in this site's history: the first unsigned artist to get featured, the first artist to shout out 33Jones in a freestyle and, perhaps most importantly, the first (and only) artist to bring in over 1 million hits on a single post. That last stat came about as a result of the fact that one of the photos we ran for He's Hers spent a month as the top google image result for the search term "Chris Brown" at a time when that other Chris Brown was the 2006 equivalent of Justin Bieber.
In the time since we last checked in with Chris he's moved out to the Philippines, specifically Quezon City, where he's continued to pursue his music career. He recently passed along his latest song off of his upcoming project Manila Sounds Stoned, produced by his younger brother Pips with bass by Joe Budzelek:
Chris offered up a little bit of insight into life in the Philippines and the inspiration for the song:
"I have been here for about a year now and I am loving it. Cost of living is fairly cheap - I can cop Nikes for a little under $20 here. Nobody really smokes blunts so its nice to see people trip whenever i pull one out. The song's lyrics loosely refer to how incredibly cheap herbs are here - I bought a huge bag for around $60 on the day the devastating tropical storm Ondoy hit last year and it lasted me until after Christmas this year, which to me was crazy."
Chris is working on a full project, Manila Sounds Stoned, which I'll post updates on as soon as I get them (and assuming his smoking habits don't land him a starring role in the sequel to Brokedown Palace). In the meantime, here's one more song from He's Hers:
