I don't have many details on this one, other than the fact that it's the first time I've seen an official Outsidaz collaboration in several years. The song is off of the album Ideology from IDE and DJ Connect. I can't say I've heard either of their names before, but the album credits refer to them as "Creative Juices front man IDE and DJ Connect, [the] DJ/Producer from Sweden's Elite Fleet Crew."
At this point, almost twenty years after the Outsidaz first formed, it's hard to hear any new material from them without lamenting the unrealized potential of the group and wondering what could have been. Co-signed by two of the most successful acts in hip hop, Eminem and the Fugees, and loaded with some of the best emcees to ever come out of Jersey, the group's lack of mainstream success serves as a prime example of how not to navigate through the politics of the music industry.
In recent years the various members of the Outsidaz have seemed to be more determined on salvaging their solo careers than working towards any sort of reunion. Pacewon's been putting out some solid releases with Mr. Green, Digga's moved on from Flipmode to focus on her independent label, and Young Zee's been recording a steady stream of drug-induced youtube videos. I don't know if this song is an indicator that they are finally ready to join up again, but here's hoping that it is.
And for old time's sake, here's one of my favorite Outsidaz songs:
