As I've stated repeatedly during the almost four years that I've known him, Philly's Nico the Beast is the most technically skilled emcee I know of that's not signed to a record deal. Having recently started up Memory Lane Music, Nico's begun recruiting up-and-coming rappers from the city of Brotherly Love to join his movement. Given his own lofty standards, the obvious question is whether any of his new affiliates can match Nico on the mic. The first artist to make the attempt is Vixion, a "femcee" who's been rhyming since the age of fourteen. With her latest album, Project V.I.X., about to drop this weekend, Nico passed along a couple of Vixion's songs to get the word out. Peep:
Up to this point, I've only heard a handful of songs from Vixion. It's too early for me to make a full judgment on her yet, but I will say that I appreciate the fact that she's significantly more lyrical than 99% of the female rappers out right now (as an aside to other female rappers: jockingBiggie doesn't make you a lyricist by association). She's got a nice little flow, to boot.
Vixion's new album, Project V.I.X., is dropping on Saturday and she'll be having a release party for it at the Khyber that night. If you're in Philly that night head on over, and say what's up to Nico while you're there.
