Marv Won - Stomp

My email account's been shut down for most of the day, so in the time that I normally would have been digging through the daily submissions to find something worth posting, I instead spent the day watching the Charles Hamilton/J Dilla saga unfold in realtime. For those of you who have better things to do with your time than follow the daily soap opera that Hamilton's twitter account has become, a quick recap: in a misguided attempt to curry favor with the underground set, Charles listed Dilla as an executive producer on his upcoming album. Of course, the same people being targeted by this cynical attempt at marketing the album are also the type of people who are smart enough to realize that Dilla passed a full year before Hamilton even got involved in the music business, so it was only a short while before Hamilton was called out by most of the internet. Detroit producer House Shoes, who confirmed with Dilla's mom that Hamilton had no connection to the Yancey clan, gets credit for drawing first blood.

As far as career lowpoints for Hamilton, I'd say this makes it into the top three behind the beat jacking of Black Spade and the video of Sonic getting knocked out by Knuckles. In this era of social networking rappers, however, where pageviews have seemingly overtaken soundscan sales as the new metric for an artist's success, it's unlikely this incident will deter Hamilton from continuing his forays onto the internet. It's done nothing to improve my view of him as an artist, but I will admit that watching his career devolve into little more than an exercise in how not to handle your brand as an artist has helped me pass the time at work.

Right, so what's that got to do with the above video? I came across the song, Stomp from Detroit emcee Marv Won, while looking up information on DJ House Shoes, who produced the track. Don't let the fact that dude looks like he might be the offspring of Rick Ross and Posdnous distract from the fact that this song is dope.
