As I've said before on this site, I've had some difficulty in the past working with artists from Jersey. So I was more than a little surprised when I was contacted by someone claiming to be from Joe Budden's camp shortly after announcing my plans for a New Jersey Live mixtape. After some brief negotiations, his promo team (or people claiming to be part of his promo team) agreed to give me a track for the mixtape. Through the course of our email conversations, I passed along the artwork and explained the concept behind the tape. Two weeks later, Joe Budden releases a New Jersey Drive mixtape. Say word?
As a rational individual, I'm inclined to believe that this is just a coincidence - this isn't the first time someone's used New Jersey Drive as a theme for their mixtape, and it undoubtedly won't be the last - but the timing on it is interesting.
Let's keep it moving, though, because as you'd expect from Joe Budden by now, he comes correct on this mixtape. Most of the tracks on here are about a year old, including the infamous Cory Lidle freestyle from last October. There are five songs labeled as "Mood Muzik 3," though, so it would seem that this is just a warmup to the long-awaited third installment of his Mood Muzik series. Here are two tracks from Joey's new mixtape:
On an entirely different subject: I was listening to Hot 97 at noon today during the station's daily "throwback" hour, about the only time that you can tune in and not have to listen to Kanye and 50 Cent's barrage of new singles, and DJ Camilo was filling in for Mister Cee. Midway through his set - a mix of Lost Boyz, Jay-Z and Biggie - Camilo threw on Tupac's Hit Em Up. I damn near fell out of my chair! I realize the Bad Boy/Death Row beef is dead and buried (so to speak), but it just didn't feel right to hear that song playing on a New York station. Maybe that's just me, though.

@E: His artwork is a little flashier - and I don't have any girls in bikinis, sadly - but I think my tracklist will hold up fairly well against this tape. Now I just have to actually put the whole thing together!
@Wit: Yeah, I actually liked the older songs on here better than the two or three new ones. Still, I'll take old Joe Budden mixtape tracks over most cats new releases.
