I always keep an eye out for any mixtapes from Jersey djs, so when I saw that Nu Jerzey Devil had a new mixtape out with Big Mike, I picked it up despite the fact that the tape was loaded with songs from Dipset's JV Squad.
There are a few new songs from Jim Jones and the D-Block crew, but the main attraction on this tape is the blends and freestyles that Devil and Big Mike have put together. Most mixtapes these days rely too heavily on the latest beat du jour for their blends, but there are only so many times you can listen to a rapper spit over the We Fly High beat before they all start to sound the same. There's plenty of that to be found on this mixtape, of course, but there are a few tracks that surprised me with the beat selection, most notably The Game rapping over the instrumental from the Roots' Clones.
"Yeah, Triple H is tryin to sue me for 'The Game.' I think that we should just take it to Pay Per View and have a wrestling match, man, so I can fuck him up because I'm not into that whole play wrestling thing. We can really take it to the streets, we can wrestle right in the middle of Compton. We can put up a makeshift ring made out of shoestrings and light posts. I'll get in there and body slam his ass all over the place for the name."
