Let me say right up front that I don't watch The View, in case any of you had any questions about that. If I see an article about the show I will skim through it, though, due to the fact that one of my friends from college is a host on The View. So I was vaguely aware that co-host Rosie O'Donnell had managed to offend a large segment of the Asian community with her recent Ching Chong Chinese impersonation. Living in the New York area, I have also been subjected to 24/7 coverage of the ongoing feud between Rosie O'Donnell and Donald Trump.
Freestyle Friday champ and former Ruff Ryder Jin, upset by Rosie's Chinese outburst, has managed to combine these two events into one amazing ethering of the woman. With backup vocals from The Trump, Jin airs out Rosie on his latest track:
I'm surprised that Jin hasn't made more of an impact on the mainstream level. Winning 106 and Park's Freestyle Friday battle, which resulted in him getting a contract from Ruff Ryders, may have actually been the worst thing to happen to his career, because I can't imagine that any other label this side of Atlantic Records could have done a worse job with his debut. Learn Chinese as the first single? If Jin had any hope of elevating himself above the status of a gimmick rapper in the eyes of mainstream fans, it was ruined the first time that video played on MTV.
After leaving Ruff Ryders and briefly retiring, Jin recently put out an album that was sold only through his MySpace page. He is currently working on an album done entirely in Cantonese, ABC ("American Born Chinese"). Seems like he's giving up on the American market, but maybe he'll find more success with Chinese audiences.
Here are some of his highlights from his Freestyle Friday battles:
Yeah, that was one of the only times I've seen Jin lose a battle. Speaking of Serius, I've got a couple of tracks of his I've been meaning to put up. Next week maybe.
