A couple of months ago, Cocaine Cowboys, a documentary about the Medellfn Cartel's control of the cocaine trade in Miami during the 70's and 80's, received a fair amount of support from the hip hop community upon its release. Not suprisingly, every thug rapper and wannabe Escobar from the 305 Area Code tried to associate themselves with the movie, as if showing support to the Columbian drug dealers of the 80's somehow lent credibility to their own tales of drug dealing. Recently, a semi-official mixtape was put together by Rick Ross and Wally Sparks to promote the release of the Cocaine Cowboys DVD (January 23rd). While the lyrics on this tape require some suspension of disbelief (I'm supposed to believe Nore was moving weight like Nori?), there are a few dope (yeah, pun intended) songs on here. There's a lot of filler on the tape, too, but if you're fiending for some coke rap, this one might be worth picking up.
