The NBA, Khia and the Young Gunz:

While most people traditionally celebrate October 31st as "Halloween," for me it marks a much more important holiday: the start of the NBA season. As a Nets fan this is a bittersweet event, though, as each new NBA season is one step closer to the team moving to Brooklyn. For a long time I was in denial, convinced that the Nets would never move away after all we had been through together. Once Jay-Z came on board, I realized that the move to Brooklyn was inevitable. Why would S.Carter buy into the team if he didn't have some sort of guarantee that the team was moving to his home borough?

Enough about that, though. What I wanted to share today were a couple of tracks that some rappers put together for the Nets. They're both pretty bad, but hey, how many other teams can say they had a Roc-A-Fella artist put together an anthem for them? The first track is from Khia, a remix of sorts to her ode to foreplay, My Neck, My Back, released just in time for the Nets trip to the NBA finals in 2002. Includes the unforgettable line, "The Nets Are Back, Their lovely socks are black."

The second track is from former Roc-A-Fella group Young Gunz, released in 2005. The song, featuring the beat from Jay-Z's Takeover, served two purposes: Celebrate the Nets first round series against the Miami Heat and promote the Young Gunz new album. The Nets ended up getting swept out of the playoffs and the Young Gunz album tanked.

If the NBA isn't your thing, Different Kitchen has put up Green Lantern's album sampler for the Clipse's Hell Hath No Fury. It includes two songs, Momma I'm Sorry and Keys Open Doors, that I've never heard before. Head over to Different Kitchen to get it.

A couple of Nas tracks leaked, too. The album's sounding a lot better than I expected so far.

Comments:
I tried to find out why she made that track, but I couldn't come up with a good reason. She did grow up in South Jersey before moving down to Florida, so maybe she just really likes the Nets.
